Monika Roots and her husband, Kurt Roots, co-founded Bend Health with a shared vision of addressing the critical need for better and more accessible mental health care for kids. With their respective backgrounds in healthcare—Kurt specializing in data science and Monika practicing as a child and adolescent psychiatrist—they brought a unique blend of expertise to the table. Their commitment to making a significant impact on mental health care for children set the foundation for Bend Health.
The idea for Bend Health's business strategy was rooted in the couple's realization that a scalable solution was needed to address the growing crisis in youth behavioral health. Recognizing the limitations of relying solely on hiring more mental health professionals, Monika and Kurt wanted to develop an accessible solution that could reach a broader audience. They also understood the importance of considering the entire family system in addressing mental health challenges, and aspired to integrate the school and medical systems into their approach.
